Often overlooked by its sexier competitor Rugby, Football is one of those sports that is universally played and appreciated and a great one to coach abroad if you want to make a difference to a disadvantaged community and leave your footprint.
One such place were you can do this is in the township schools of Port Elizabeth, on the Eastern Cape of South Africa. There is virtually no sport on the curriculum which is why this organisation depends so much on volunteers to commit to a determined placement and go into the schools and deliver some soccer coaching.
This well established Not-For-Profit organisation has its own Volunteer House where is houses the volunteers, its own mini-buses for transporting the volunteers to the placements, provides food, some excursions for the weekends and teaches the volunteers how to teach before they are let loose on the masses.
It’s the perfect blend of having fun with lots of other sports-minded volunteers and doing something life-changing and leaving your legacy.
Placements are for 5 to 12 weeks with definite start and finish dates so everyone is working at the same level. Prices range from £1,150 to £1,850 and include airport transfers, accommodation, food, transport to placements, some excursions, comprehensive team instruction and bonding.
Who knows – you might spot a future sporting legend and be instrumental in making sure his or her talent are recognised and he or her get the opportunity to go to the top!
